Girl of the Earth is 100% women-owned and women manufactured. The founder Ruby, grew up in downtown Manhattan to antique-dealer parents, so "I inherited and cultivated relationships with vintage suppliers, flea market owners, eccentric grandmas, and just plain hoarders, who I buy gorgeous old fabric from. This supply chain is super unconventional and requires my life-long expertise, and a lot of luck, but basically I'm just really really good at shopping" says Ruby

How the founder Ruby says, Girl of the Earth is a one-woman show!

Every piece is made from vintage fabrics dating 1930-1999. Ruby, the founder, sources these personally using her lifelong knowledge. These leftover pieces of fabric are so small that other brands would never bother to use them. Ruby, the founder says "I understand why— it's a super time-intensive business model. I am always spending way too much time negotiating prices, inspecting fabrics' condition, and giving my seamstress complex instructions about which remnants are for which styles"

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality and environmental value. 

Upcycling artists are inspired by the textile waste they see, which is almost an unlimited resource at this point. They create with the intention to use what is already here. This process is important in the circular fashion movement, because it makes use of discarded textiles, giving these materials second lives. 

Because discarded textiles are not typically sheets of fabric, but rather articles of discarded clothing, a lot of creativity is required to transform materials into new fashionable pieces. This challenge is exciting for upcycling artists, as they are driven and inspired to create with what is in front of them and often don’t have much to lose in the process, since discarded materials are readily available and cheap. Because of this, upcycled clothing is often unique as each piece has been thoughtfully crafted into a new garment.

This product is made by creatively upcycling materials that would otherwise go to waste. This makes better use of resources like deadstock fabrics: leftovers from big production that are saved by re-using them.

Once the package is received, girl of the earth'll refund you less return shipping cost ($10 for domestic orders, or $12-$28 for international orders). For exchanges, please simply return your unwanted item and re-purchase a different one. 
Make sure the item is unused, in the same condition that you received it, and in its original packaging (and alongside its free matching scrunchie, if applicable). Please note final sale items are non-returnable.

Your fail-safe summer outfit. This is a perfect-fitting mini dress, so comfortable yet so flattering you'll find yourself reaching for it time and time again. Tube-top-style, strapless with a super secure elasticated back and inside shelf bra. Fitted through the high-waist, then flares A-line to really accentuate your curves. The back is slightly longer and split at the waist for maximum comfort when walking/sitting. Style with heeled boots on a night out in the city, or barefoot by the seaside. BTW, we're consistently DM'ed from customers saying this silhouette fits their small waists & wide hips better than any other dress they own  — it's truly a hit!

Can't go wrong with jeans and a nice top. This is a fun going-out halter, with front darts that tailor the waist perfectly, and a totally open back that ties dainty at the back neck and long at the back waist. The front is cut on the bias for an extra slinky and curve-hugging fit. Style with loose trousers and heeled boots.

Straight out of the 70s. These are sleek wide-leg trousers with an ultra high-rise waist, cinched with darts. Center back invisible zip closure for a streamlined silhouette around the tummy. Unlined. Comfortable enough for an airplane styled with a vintage tee, but also can be easily dressed up to go out with a tube top and heels.
